On Saturday 30th June we held our first ‘Saturday Night Social’ evening. It’s the social supper club for people who care what’s on their plate – offering sustainable, responsible food and drink to guests and a chance for our team to show off their skills whilst learning some new ones!
The aim of this new event from The Real Junk Food Project Sheffield is to offer a training session in a professional kitchen environment for volunteers, to reach a wide audience and of course to use fantastic ingredients that would otherwise have been wasted.
Sheffield Hallam University‘s Executive Head Chef, Darren Proctor, lead the kitchen on the day by teaching our trainees the fine art of making fresh pasta and chicken butchery. The team then went on to help prepare the rest of the feast for the evening:
Gazpacho with Balsamic Pearls
Pepper Tortellini with Gnocchi and Pesto
Chicken Breast and Thigh stuffed with Mushroom, Hasselback Potato, Fondant Carrot and Spring Greens -or- Halloumi and Artichoke Hearts for the vegetarians
Poached Peach, Creme Fraiche, Passion Fruit Sauce and Pistachios.
Diners were greeted in SHU’s fantastic hospitality suite, with jaw dropping views across Sheffield offered from the 12th floor. Check out the pictures and keep an eye out for our next event!
