The Real Junk Food Project Sheffield saves half a tonne of food to feed 161 people in Sharrow!

We did it again!

On Saturday 4th July we ran a pop-up in Sharrow Community Forum and fed 141 customers plus 20 volunteers with waste, surplus and excess food. Donations of £680.06 came in through the pay-as-you-feel concept and the feedback so far has been wonderful!

Our menu comprised of veg chilli, chickpea and cauliflower curry, herby beef cottage pie, pork and noodle balls and a ham, chicken and mozzarella pasta bake! Not bad with only 3 hours to prepare hey?

For this pop-up we also created various puddings which went down a treat. Having received a huge amount of bananas we got creative making not only banana breads but banana ice-cream. The bread and butter pudding disappeared quickly along with the ‘Rocky Road to Sharrow’ dessert which comprised of broken up Rocky biscuits and banana ice-cream.

Thank you so much to everyone who got involved, helped on the day, came along to eat and gave us food to cook! We’re making real headway in feeding bellies not bins in Sheffield.

Keep an eye on the website and social media channels for new dates and venues. Our next booked in pop-up is on Saturday 29th August at The Burton Street Foundation in Hillsborough. Hope to see you there!
